Giulia D’Aquila

Researcher, KCL

Dr Giulia D’Aquila is a researcher and trade policy expert. Her research focuses on Chinese cultural diplomacy, international relations, the creative industries and higher education. She completed a PhD in Chinese Studies at King’s College Lau China Institute, which focused on the role that Chinese contemporary films play in the international relations between the UK and China. She is also a Junior Content Expert for the EU-funded project “New building blocks of the Bologna Process: implementing a common understanding of fundamental values – NewFAV 2”.

She has a strong record working in policy and policy research, including working as a parliamentary researcher for the House of Lords in 2023-2024. In 2021 she was selected for the Future Talent Programme by the UK-China Film Collab, and carried out film-related activities and preparatory research as part of her project.

In 2020 she graduated with a Distinction from the University of Edinburgh, where she studied for a 2-year Master’s Degree in Chinese Studies, with a focus on Chinese cinema. Before that, she obtained a First Class Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Palermo, Italy. She has lived in Shanghai, China, studying at Fudan University
